For this week's write, you need to pick something that would be a symbol of you. It may be hard to narrow your choice down to one thing as it was for me, but you may only choose one symbol. In a paragraph of 250 words, explain your symbol. How does it represent you? What does it represent about you? Why would you choose this particular image as a symbol for you as opposed to something else? You will need to have a picture of this symbol to accompany your writing.

Don't forget . . .
1) A topic sentence
2) A concluding sentence
3) Transition words that help with coherence in the writing
4) Imagery: words, details, phrases that appeal to the senses therefore creating an image in the reader's mind
5) A picture of the symbol

Grandma Jones's Jewelry Box

To pick one thing that symbolizes me - that is a representation of me - something that represents a greater meaning or significance is almost impossible. There are so many parts to my life. To begin with, I am part of a family. A daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, niece, wife, mom, and aunt. My family is such an integral part of who I am. I am also a teacher; a person who craves learning not only for my students but for myself as well. Never will I feel I have learned all I can, so I will continue to do that alongside my students who often teach me more than I ever thought possible. So, something that would symbolize those things - family and profession? But there is more to me than that. I am family, I am learning, I am a person who finds so much solace in the outdoors. Let me ride a horse, fish along the riverbank, sit next to a warm, glowing campfire, or dig in the dirt of my gardens and I am happy!  But there is so much you, my students and others reading this post, do not know about me. My choice for a symbol is my great grandmother's jewelry box. It signifies family and memories of moments that are all connected to the things I mentioned above. It is also durable with a lock keeping the most treasured things inside. That is truly me - so much of me lies within my soul. My great grandmother's jewelry box is my chosen symbol.
